Intentional leadership can empower and uplift communities, foster a culture of inclusivity, and promote progress. More specifically, leaders with lived experiences help to ensure that the design and implementation of direct services are tailored to address the specific needs of the community they serve. Leaders with lived experiences are directly affected by social issues that allow them to develop real strategies to address those challenges. This gives them insights to inform and improve systems, research, policies, practices, and programs. These leaders inspire others to take action alongside them.

A mentorship program based out of New York City has had one aim in mind since its inception: to uplift young Latinas without support access due to socioeconomic deterrents. Latinas On the Verge of Excellence, also known as the L.O.V.E. Mentoring Program, gives young girls the opportunity to excel beyond school with knowledge of mental, reproductive and physical health youths often face in secret.
