"Then, after we hung up, I mean … what’s the first thing you do when someone tells you not to Google something because it might be scary or get you worried?"
The end of the 2018 season was near and David Wright had not played since May 27, 2016. After years of battling spinal stenosis, Wright was forced to reevaluate the remainder of his baseball career at the age of 35. After 12 years with the same organization that drafted him out of Hickory High School, Wright was forced to walk away.
Wright is unquestionably the best third baseman in Mets history and ranks atop all position players, too.
If his goal in retirement is to spend quality time with his family and fade into relative anonymity, then David Wright is 2-for-2. Considering that he was a .296 career hitter for the New York Mets, that’s right in line with his proficiency at the plate.

David Wright played his entire Major League Baseball career for one team, the team he dreamed of playing for as a kid: the New York Mets. A quick fan favorite from Virginia who then earned his stripes in New York, Wright came back time and again from injury and demonstrated the power of hard work, total commitment, and an infinite love of the game.
