Let’s have an honest conversation regarding why Black women are consistently paid less than our white male counterparts, how unequal pay continues to perpetuate the wealth gap, and why doing the right thing will benefit everyone, including Corporate America. Dr. Yazeed will create a safe space for Black women to share their thoughts of how unequal pay impacts them, while leaders will walk away with recommendations for how they can begin to close this racial/gender wealth gap.

When we talk about inequality as it relates to black women, the conversation is often limited to discussions of unequal pay and the lack of financial resources. Has anyone stopped and considered that inequality also extends to the healing of black women? Many of us are emotionally imprisoned. Our careers are stagnant due to fear, hurt, pain and unresolved trauma that we’ve pushed to the side in an effort to maintain careers, families, and a social life while juggling the constant state of our uncomfortableness within society. If you are reading this, it means your mind is tired of going through mental obstacle courses- especially at work. It means you are ready to do what needs to be done to begin the healing process and reclaim a part of yourself; the part you’ve forgotten about over the years because it is hidden beneath so many layers of trauma and protective emotional armor. If you are reading this, it means this workbook is for you! This workbook contains an assortment of activity sheets, a thirty day work diary and information that is designed to help black women to start the healing process from trauma encountered in the workplace.

The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. From a looming pay gap that doesn't appear to be going away anytime soon, to dealing with micro aggressions, blatant harassment and racism, black women in America endure a lot just to make a living in this country. This anthology shares the toxic work stories of thirteen black women trying to navigate and survive the nine to five rat race in America.

Shut’em Down is the battle cry of Black women who have suffered abuse and trauma at the hands of corporate America. Composed of the stories of 20 Black women who have been impacted by racism in the workplace, this anthology not only offers us conversation starters on how to combat racism on the job, but also transformative ideas to create safer work spaces for Black professionals.
