Recently retired U.S. Army Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for the past four years, will be the principal speaker and receive an honorary degree at the University of Notre Dame’s 171st University Commencement Ceremony on May 15.
Gen. Martin Dempsey, Graduate School '84 and former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has been named a 2016 Rubenstein Fellow, President Richard Brodhead announced Thursday. As a Rubenstein Fellow, Dempsey will co-teach a class next Spring through the Sanford School of Public Policy with Peter Feaver, professor of political science and public policy, focused on U.S. civil-military relations.
The University of Notre Dame has announced the general who stepped down as the military's top officer last week will be the principal speaker at its commencement next spring.
