Kip Fulbeck traveled the U.S. photographing thousands of people, and asking them to handwrite their response to the question “Who are you?” He began these projects searching for the America never covered in history books – for the millions of people like himself that fell between the categories of race. What he found was a powerful and universal drive within individuals to share their stories and connect. In our contemporary world of social distance, overwhelming social media, Zoom meetings, and clickbait, Fulbeck believes our need to identify ourselves – our need to be really seen – is now more necessary than ever before.
