“Shelley Moore did not disappoint :)”
In this session, we will look at how the goals of inclusion have continued to shift and evolve, as we learn more about diversity and identity. Participants will reflect on their own contexts and consider next steps for advocacy and action.
Our understanding of inclusive education, and how we can support learners in these settings, is evolving every day. Individual Education Plans (IEPs), however, have not evolved from their historical roots as a deficit-based framework applied only in self-contained special-education settings. IEPs still typically emphasize what students can't do instead of highlighting strengths, building competencies and relying on student and family voices to lead the conversation. All for One tells the story of how some teachers, a couple of school districts and many families, came together to change the IEP narrative and design a plan for learning that meets the needs of one individual student, with the goal of increasing the places where students can be meaningfully included.

"Why do we do what we do? What is the legacy we leave as educators? As an inclusive educator who is passionate about social justice and equity, teaching is not just a job. It's a passion. It's a vehile to make a difference not just in the classroom, but in our communities and society. These are questions I've been wondering about lately. This book makes just such a contribution. Through story and metaphor, Shelley touches the heart and helps us to embrace diversity and move toward greater equity in our classrooms. . . . Wrapped up in these stories and metaphors are practices and insights to provoke and inspire." - from the Foreword, by Leyton Schnellert, PhD
