“On October 29th, motivational speaker Tony Doland spoke to the Hutto High School student body about the harmful effects of bullying. Educators and youth workers across the country are realizing that the problem of bullying has changed since they were students. This problem goes far beyond their control. The best way to combat bullying is by empowering our youth to be the change they want to see in their schools. This is the message Tony Doland conveys in his powerful talk entitled “Change Starts With Me.” Tony’s approach is to change the overall culture of our schools to create an environment that is not conducive for bullying. He captivated the audience through the power of humor and storytelling, Tony discussed the issues of bullying, cyberbullying and bullycide. The only way to end bullying in our schools is for the students to realize they are the solution. His message, “Change starts with me” impacted students. 11th grade student Brandon Douglas took part in the presentation. He says, “Although I’ve always known bullying is wrong, it made me feel sad for victims. What you say can really have an impact people. It makes me want to stop bullying. I know change can start with me.””
